About Me / Asami Nishino, M.A.
Certified Public Psychologist (Konin Shinrishi) , Certified Clinical Psychologist (Rinsho Shinrishi)
After working at a bank in Japan, Asami relocated to the United States with a clear goal: to become a bilingual (Japanese/English) psychological counselor. She holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University.
In California, Asami gained diverse experience as a school counselor at a K-5 public elementary school, at an outpatient group counseling facility, and at Foothill College’s Student Health Center.
After returning to Japan, she dedicated 15 years to working at a psychiatric clinic, providing individual counseling and launching a comprehensive 7-day-a-week outpatient daycare program. In this role, she facilitated the “Rework” group, supporting individuals taking sick leave from their workplaces, as well as various other specialized groups for different conditions.
About Counseling
With over 15 years of experience at a psychiatric clinic, Asami has developed a collaborative and down-to-earth counseling style. She integrates evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and other therapeutic techniques, with a strong emphasis on Mindfulness practices. Her goal is to help clients regain strength, rediscover their true selves, and foster resilience.
Mindfulness Practice
Asami’s mindfulness journey began with Drs. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli’s MBSR 7-day retreat at Mount Madonna in 2013. Since then, she has completed multiple MBSR programs, participated in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), a 5-day retreat, and a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat. Most recently, she attended a lecture series taught by Wimara Inoue Sensei.
